In memoriam of Dieter Ferring

Early in August, just during the days editing the final shape of the congress program we were deeply saddened by terrible news: Dieter Ferring passed away, totally unexpectedly and unbelievable for all of us! Dieter Ferring was a professor at the University of Luxembourg in developmental psychology and psychology of aging,  head of a very successful research unit INSIDE of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences.
He was a highly respected scholar and brilliant researcher and supported the organisation of this year’s EA-MHID conference in many ways. Though his main research was not in the area of intellectual and developmental disabilities, he  was supporting and advocating successfully to establish research programs focusing on inclusion for societally marginalized populations. Thus, when getting in touch more than two years ago with Professor Ferring to get him on board of the local organisation team of this year’s conference it was straight forward for him, not only to support this project with a conference grant application on behalf of the University of Luxembourg but far more important to him was offering a focused communication during the conference. He has prepared this presentation together with his colleague “Elke Murdock” how now will share with us Dieter’s reflections and thoughts on inclusion and disability.
We will keep Dieter alive in our memories as an outstanding colleague, a prominent researcher, an brilliant scholar and fast and close friend and we want to dedicate this year’s conference to him! With our deepest sympathies going out to his family.
